This piece was a real pleasure to write, it’s a great feeling to address and highlight some of the fundamental absurdity of our economic system in detail. The day I saw my first “Ghost Kitchen” was profound evidence that the world is wobbling on its axis and I’m grateful to editor Maria Bustillos for her help with expressing my dismay.

It was intended as a home for portraits of trees along with my brief thoughts and descriptions. The website is (sporadically) updated but remains a solid repository for tree photography. My first entry for the Oregon Encyclopedia is linked here. It was a great opportunity and a solid chance to begin work with the fantastic people of the Oregon Historical Society— and a real honor to help tell Will Vinton’s remarkable story.
This is one of the first pieces I’ve had published. The themes of “de-regulation leads to disaster” present in the book have only proven more apt in the wake of Boeing’s 737 Max debacle. “Crash Course” is definitely recommended- my review here
